Active Church Online - coming soon...

Oasis delivers Christ-centred community hubs in 36 neighbourhoods around the country. We've learnt a lot about church-led in the last thirty years and Active Church is our opportunity to share that knowledge with others. Until now, that training has been delivered in Waterloo and Birmingham and we've been limited in how often we could make it happen. However, in the Autumn we'll be releasing a web-based resource that churches can access as and when they need, so that they can enhance the way they work in community. In the meantime, here is a bit of a taster of what the online training will include...

About Oasis Community Hubs

Oasis Hubs seek to ensure people have holistic and integrated support: economically, vocationally, academically, environmentally, socially, morally, spiritually, physically and emotionally.

Therefore, in our local community Hubs, we aspire to ensure broad, integrated and quality activities exist across the following seven thematic areas:

  • Education

  • Youth and children's work

  • Community empowerment

  • Housing

  • Advice and support

  • Personal and spiritual development

  • Health and wellbeing

Each of our Hubs responds to the strengths and needs of their local neighbourhood, and community members are actively engaged in designing, delivering and leading services. In this way, we are committed to ensuring that Hub priorities are driven by a local movement of people.

We work in this way because the needs of people are interconnected and therefore our response must be broad, integrated and owned by the local community.

Oasis Hub Characteristics

We think that our community Hub model provides the greatest opportunity for individuals to thrive, see outcomes change and ultimately reach their God-given potential.

Oasis Hubs are local Christ-centred places of activity that provide, and partner with others to provide, integrated, high quality and diverse services to benefit the whole person and the whole community – in other words community delivery for an entire neighbourhood that is 360˚.

Oasis Hubs have the following four key characteristics:

  1. Small geographical focus

  2. Broad integrated community services (delivered in partnership with other community providers, and where appropriate by Oasis)

  3. Focus on developing connection and relationship

  4. Christ-centred focus, because this is Oasis’ identity and because it is a way of helping people to discover how to become fully human (recognising that we never seek to impose faith positions on anyone)

This is just a taste of how we "do" Hub. If that sounds like something you'd like to explore, look out for our online Active Church course, which will launch in the Autumn.
